Ford implemented the "octane switch" on later TurboCoupes, a similar device to that Volvo kit that came installed from the factory. One position was low boost for low octane and the other position was high boost for high octane. Given the similarities between the B230 and the Lima motor, it's kinda funny they ended up doing the same thing.
Of course, Maserati figured out the right answer early on - buy APC boxes from Saab. :)
