When even someone on Saabnet says maybe it's time to cut the cord...As my mechanic died and I can't even change oil myself, I did get a new car - BMW X1 AWD. My son calls it my Saab 3.0. I haven't put the Viggen up for sale yet, but wow, never worrying about what's going to go wrong next sure is a relief. I spent $15K+ in repairs on the Viggen in 4 years. I leased this one. About the time it might become problematic, it will be someone else's problem.
In shopping, I realized I was looking for another Saab. They don't exist. Cars are comparable in size, HP, torque and mpg, however, Viggen still wins on seats and zip. I like the X1 a lot on the highway and while it will respond if I need the pick up, somehow, that was always more fun in the Viggen. Maybe the auto trans vs manual. First auto I've had in 2 decades. Saab cargo space much larger than the X1. We brought home a 55" TV in the Viggen with no problem. The transition hasn't hurt too much, but hard to think of getting rid of the Viggen after I've put so much into it. Here (TN), my insurance on the X1 is only a couple hundred more per year than the Viggen, yet if I totaled the Viggen, pay out is only around $4500 from State Farm. Sadly, could probably do better parting it out. As someone pointed out in another post on these forums, Saab resale is terrible.
