I've been using a Porter Cable to polish and wax my cars for the past several years. The hook and loop pad allows you to switch pads when going from polish to wax pretty quickly so I recommend it. I didn't find much use using the porter cable to remove the wax from the car. I found using the porter cable to apply then hand remove worked best for me.
When I bought the porter cable I stocked up on 6" Griots foam pads, but bought Chemical Guys from Amazon last time I needed new pads. If your just trying to clean the surface and apply wax, I would go with mild pads. The only time I used a pad with some cutting action was to remove years of oxidation from the hood of my wifes Camry or when she "kissed" the garage parking the car. 3M rubbing compound and a cutting disc was the only thing that would work on that hood and it took me weeks to work it off.
It's my legs that get sore when I wash/wax, not my shoulders...
