There really are major differences with people on this... Personally I love driving, especially on long trips. It really really helps if the vehicle has good seats, seating position, and an overall high level of driver engagement (handling, responsiveness, road feel, etc)... that's why we own saabs... but I could drive anything for long stretches - I might just complain about it if my back/legs etc are sore as a result! Seriously, if I am well rested, I can easily do 15 hours in a day with only 2 or 3 short breaks for fuel (food and gas). Then I need sleep, not because I am no longer alert, but because I know I am more tired than I feel and it is better to be safe than take risks.
But I know other people who can't go more than an hour without constant passenger support (chit chat, etc) or they would nod off from boredom.
I don't disagree with your statement. I also don't disagree with Tim's commentary on the lane assist being probably a useful safety feature for some (as are rumble strips). Not really something I would rely on though, as that would be like relying on "Autopilot" like the drivers who crashed their Teslas...
