We have a BMW 535 xD, 3 liter. You do not do this for economy, you do it because the torque is massive [400+ ft.lb] and quiet. The BMW and Audi 3L diesels have very similar specs and performance and both, 2015, used identical transmissions. So I expect that the Audi, which I did not drive, would be very similar in many respects. The inline 6 engines [BMW] are intrinsically more balanced than V6 engines [Audi]. So BMW has that advanage. Audi was tuning for a bit more power. Builds for North America are different from Europe, so you can get misled by Europe/UK reviews and specs.
At 80mpg, true not indicated, ~1700 RPM.
BMW does not have any diesel gate issues.
Never any issues with diesel smells or soot, tail pipe is clean.
Great MPGs.
Diesel fuel way cheaper than premium gasoline that alternative vehicles require.
