Is having a rotator useful? We live ~35 miles from metro Detroit so most signals would be coming from the NE direction. Toledo signals would be 45 miles from the South, other stations may be coming from the West, North or NW areas, none more than 60 miles or so.
It appears that 150 mile range can be achieved using a directional antenna which requires a rotator. 150 miles is more than we require but might result in a better signal for the more distant stations. Omni-directional antennas appear to have a shorter range but no need for a rotator.
I plan on wrapping our masonry fireplace chimney with a strap-on antenna mount coupled with maybe a 10 foot mast. This would place the antenna ~25 feet above grade and almost directly above where the existing CATV cable enters our home.
