The Insurance Company will collect from the claimant via future rate increases. Insurance used to be a risk sharing plan, but it has morphed into a deferred payment plan. Low rates are advertised to entice you to become a customer, then you are hit with much higher rates following even a modest claim.
As EGD posted, it is best to investigate insurance premiums up front. An expensive car to repair, or a car that is prone to being a write-off after a small fender bender, will be an expensive car to insure.
