Ah, Sciroccos... I went from a 1980 Rabbit L to a 1987 Scirocco 16V and I thought I was living large. I wanted a Scirocco S when I graduated from college in 1980 but couldn't afford it hence the much cheaper Rabbit. Four speed manual with all of 85 hp, I think. Loved the '87 Scirocco but dumped it in '92 for a Ford Explorer and then another Ford.
My wife, like you, got me into Saabs. At the LA Auto Show back in Jan 2001, my heavily pregnancy wife saw the trunk on the 9-3, had visions of it loaded up with play pens and strollers, and directed me to buy that car. Saab of Santa Monica had the perfect car on the lot and we had one less than two weeks after the auto show. Great car for babies -- we even used the rear deck as a changing table on road trips.
Sold that one but have two other Saabs and now a Volvo S60 to go along with them. Will pass the Saabs we have on to the kiddies for college.
Update: the Rabbit engine put out 71 hp, not 85!
Oh, and if it wasn't for quality indies, we'd not be driving Saabs at this point. Give them thanks.
