Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I am under the belief that if it hasn't been started in 6 months, it's better to do it now than wait longer. I put in some fuel stabilizer, but I'd like to burn the fuel sooner than later.
I wouldn't let it idle or sit, she would drive it once a week or so. She's driven her own 9-3 in the past, so I trust her to drive it well.
Perhaps what I'll do to start is get her and my father to charge the battery using a trickle charger while the battery is still in the car and then wait a few weeks to see if and how my circumstances change.
I suppose the overall concern is that if I wait another few months, the car will be driven very little and then go right back into storage. Perhaps these concern are rooted in some form of ignorance, but I have the belief that a car is meant to be driven and for its parts to be moving.
