I have a M88 900 Turbo that I bought from alongside the road here in New Mexico. $800 bucks for car and have put about 7K into it and haven't gotten it painted yet. Would recommend that you get one from a southern state such as Texas, New Mexico, Arizona or such, avoid coastal areas as the salt air is worse than road salt. If you buy from a northern state call that states DOT and ask if they use salt, magnesium chloride (Epsom Salts) or sand on their roads in winter. The biggest enemy when they use salt on the roads is a heated garage. Salt in liquid form gets into the cracks and crevices of the car when on the road then when put in the garage the salt dries out and expands, then the car gets more salt on it and dries out and it expands more. Pay careful attention to the "tunnels" where the CV shafts go through as that is where the salt slush sits and does the most damage if it is not washed out frequently during the winter. Look at the bottoms of the doors, the edges of the wheel wells, the bottom of the trunk for signs of corrosion and get it on a lift and poke around with a small screw driver looking for weak spots in the under carriage especially if you note any of the body plugs missing or where there are drains that get plugged with gunk over the years.
Personally wouldn't have anything else regardless of the hassle of getting parts. If you do get one, learn to work on it so you know the car inside and out. Most of the major problems are going to be electrical, by the time you get done you will be a master mechanic and an electrical engineer, but it is one of the most satisfactory feeling when you get 'er up and running or you may luck out and get one that has been well cared for.
