I’ve had batteries that when fully charged, according to the charger, would only last a couple of days before they were not up to starting the car. I think the cells are weak and may reach the proper voltage, but can’t supply the current. I have found leaving the battery connected for months when the car is not driven will kill the battery. I usually charge the battery every two weeks when the cars are driven infrequently, especially in cold months. I have an automatic battery charger that will “rejuvenate” the battery, if possible, and can sometimes bring a battery back from the dead. This type of charger is more expensive, but batteries keep going up in price and we have multiple cars so it’s worth the money. I wouldn’t expect that there was any damage to the car itself, but cleaning terminals is always a good idea. I’ve found even terminals that look good can have enough oxidation to cause starting problems.
