There are still 9-5s in decent condition available, I just bought a 2004 9-5 Aero. I owned a 2008 9-3 SportCombi briefly until it was totaled in an accident last November. The 9-3 is a little lighter and more nimble than the 9-5, but I like the seats better in the 9-5 and the more power of the Aero more than makes up for the extra weight. Either one would be an option IMHO if you want to stay with Saab.
I would think any reasonable mechanic who is willing could work on one. Parts could be a problem as time goes on (worse with the 9-5 since they made fewer of them).
