other Dallas commentary - long - Saabnet.com Bulletin Board
I agree with two main points made in that message. First, Dallas roads do not require superior handling, just good acceleration. In Dallas, you are either on a major expressway, or you're on a straight, flat, grid-like wide road. In fact, one reason big cars with auto are so popular here is because you really don't have the opportunity to drive in a sporty fashion. You just hit the gas at green lights. Second, BMWs (which do handle well) are popular do to the snob factor. This is very important in Dallas. In fact, BMWs and Lexus are fairly similar in terms of their typical drivers because they are simply status cars to so many here. I almost bought a 323i in Jan but hesitated to do so because the 4 or 5 people I know here who drive 3 series are not car lovers, but status seekers. One other point: SAAB needs a dealership in a more centrally located area or near better demographics. THose plans are in place but we'll see. Many Dallas-based buyers wouldn't think of buying a car in a dealership not located in a "nice" area. Joshua Harrison
