SAAB's "concept cars" have always been a work in progress... SAAB has always been one for production run changes rather than releasing a new model at the "model year change" with a lot of overzealous whooping and carrying on. Many innovations over the years were just added to the existing production line, often in mid-year. The original 1947 SAAB 92 was basically a test production car, the production 92 had some sheetmetal differences, but was basically the same car as the the original. There was never any real publicly displayed "prototype" for the 93, 95/96 or 99. There were some pre-production cars that were mainly used internally to test manufacturing methods and factory layout, but for the most part new model changeovers were just production run changes. The "Toad", the nearest thing I'm aware of to a 99 prototype, was a widened 96 used to test the 99 engine and suspension. The C900 was basically a stretched 99, the same car from the windshield pillars back.
Since there were only six made, I suppose you could argue that the Sonett I was a "concept car". The Sonett II was built off of a prototype built by a subsidiary and Sason also designed a prototype that didn't make it to production. There was never a Sonett III prototype shown before the production car came out. The EV-1, built by a couple of employees using 900 components, was not really an official SAAB factory concept car.
