I was browsing through the Jan. 2001 issue of Car & Driver (I can't bring myself to pay for Beddard's and Yates' innane dribble, so I get 'em second hand from a friend). On page 40, there's a little excerpt in yellow that states, "Consider that even a decade ago four-valve, overhead camshaft engines and five-speed manuals were rarities, available only in a few exotics from Europe and Japan. Gadgets such as power mirrors, remote locks, and cruise control were expensive options".
I doubt he'd consider a Saab an exotic car, but it seems to me that 4-valve engines were standard on Saabs well before 1990 (actually 1985), and 5-speeds predate that (1980, IIRC). Heck, Direct Ignition was standard 10 years ago. Power mirrors, central locking (not remote), and cruise control were all standard on all but the base model 900 (I believe the base 9000 had 'em) 10 years ago.
Oh, wait. Brock Yates wrote it. Never mind.
