I'm on the original engine in my car, with 253k miles on it. The engine has never been apart, and runs better now than it did at 153k miles. It's gotten Castrol GTX during it's life with me (last 102k miles), either 15w40 or 10w30, changed everyone 2500-3500 miles, with maybe a few 4000 mile changes thrown in there.
It's leaking a bit of oil, an I'm going to the shop tomorrow in part so they can track that down. The valve cover seal was replaced about a year ago, so it's looking like starter backplate or distributor O-ring.
To me, if you have to rebuild an engine at 170k, that's an indication of a not very long engine life. But perhaps, if you drive as few miles per year as your car has been driven, it's normal, as opposed to a car which is driven 20k miles a year.
