I'm jealous! You'll love Australia! My trip there in May/June 1999 was one of the highlights of my life. Mostly drove the areas around Cairns, Sydney, Snowy Mtns, and Canberra. Beautiful country, great scenery, fantastic people, unbelievable beaches, etc... For an American, driving on the left was interesting. I found it a bit tiring at first because it required a lot of concentration, especially at intersections and rotaries, and the rural roads are a bit narrower than in US/Canada (no shoulders), but the surface is usually decent quality and they're reasonably well marked and signed. Also watch out for kangaroos, especially in the early evening. Some of the bigger ones are as large as a small deer and they'll crunch you or your car if you hit one. Saw lots of kangaroo road kill Down Under...
