1. NOT a point A to B car. Not a short trip car. The darn things are alive: need a little warm up to get "feeling" right (more so w/ age), and flat love to be driven. You will invariably have a few (maybe many?) tweaks/repairs over time, which reinforces the "no A to B" because the car will put grey hairs on you when you need it most. Rather, it's a car that likes TLC and when all tight/right, wants to be taken on wandering aimless trips, the longest route possible to any destination. You won't be able to stop yourself.
In the real world, we all make some A to B use of them, and I at least may already have some grey hair at 25.... :o)
2. Requires a slush fund/avail. disposable income of shy of a grand/yr to be fairly safe, IMHO. Between three 900's, some years they nary ask anything of me, and at other times... holy cow, ouch. Me, I just live on spaghetti.
3. Individualism and thick skin. Most people (even family) will alternatively dismiss your 900 as: a-bug-shaped-thing, snaabish, "nothing compared to my beemer, you wannabe", or freakish looking, unreliable, Swedish Auto Assembled Backwards (assuming they know where it came from) Furthermore, there will be some (not all, but admitt it - some) new saab owners who've never had saabs older than the current NG900, 9-3, 9-5, who will likewise look down on you and your "old" car. Worry not, you're driving an engineering milestone. However, once in a while you'll meet a die hard saabnut (car model doesn't matter; new, old, ancient, whatever; might be your mechanic, more often a perfect stranger) who will want to just talk saab out in the parking lot somewhere - and that's a hoot. A few bad apples sure, but mostly a great, diverse family unlike any other, I think, if only because there is little pretense and chest puffing but a lot of obsession over the cars: their design, characteristics, and history.
4. It really is the Swiss Army Knife of cars. Rarely does it best competitors at any one thing (flat out speed, porsche-like handling, etc, nope), but provides an amazingly high degree of well-rounded performance coupled with a practical design (can you put a small couch in your sportscar?) And, it's got character in spades.
