Any Europeans out there remember the DAF Variomatic? (more)

Back in the 70's Dutch car makers DAF had a gear box like that in a small (in every sense of the word) car. I believe most of the moving parts were made of nylon - consequently reliability was less than mediocre ...
As an interesting bit of trivia this car was at the time the fastest car in the world ... in reverse. Reverse gear was basically just an extra cog wheel added to the "variomatic" gear box; thus, top speed was just about the same going backwards as going forwards. At 70mph it just outdid the Lamborghini Countach!
BTW I seem to remember DAF cars being sold to Volvo and some of these horrors being sold as a "Volvo 66" before being scrapped.
Regards,
Caspar
