A day in Germany running against a new Passat 1.8T (long)

This weekend the wife and I took off with a few other couples to go shopping and sightseeing near Dresden. I was driving my 99 9-3 base (185hp) and my buddy Doug took his 01 Passat 1.8T. Both the cars have about the same options leather, sunroof, and CD. I spent most of the time following him him since he had been there before so I could compare the limits and its abilities. Here is my impression.
Passing a bus in the middle of nowhere - I was on his ass and he was still trying to get the boost up. People say the boost on the Saab is bad? Wrong, try it with a Passat, I was worried at how long it took. At speeds over 100mph you could see the suspension on bumps and turns is very loose. He told me that he didn't feel confident (and he's very agressive) at speeds where I would have been at 120mph.
It seemed that after a day of loading the cars up with christmas goodies and nut crackers that the Passat became very sluggish (4 Adults in each car). My Saab, as I've pointed out here before got better handling when loaded down with goodies.
I like the Passat but the amount of chrom on it does not enhance the look. I ride in it 2-3 times a week and while I love the interior feel the dynamics of the car don't please me.
Last but not least the ride home, While I was cruising at 140mph going home he was limited to 125mph. That's not an issue in America but limiting a German car sedan at that speed is a bummer.
Well it was still a great weekend of driving, sightseeing and even shopping. I enjoyed running with the Passat but am glad I bought my Saab.
