What it has in Minis....it ruins with baaaad (and here, I don't mean 'good') scriptwriting and direction. James-Bondish trademark quirkiness in British film is here almost grotesque.
Scenery: great.
Music: Quincy Jones (need I say more?)
Acting: When you give solid talent nothing to work with, they can deliver nothing. Caine's "command and control" part was far far out of tune with the times (the 60s) and remains so to this day. It was phony as a $3 bill. Noel Coward's prison scenes were almost....shall I say it?.....stupid. "Rule Brittania" sung by a chrous of prisoners? Gimme a break!
Cars: Red, white, and blue Minis may have been OK for the director but for me, nothing replaces the two-toned Minis I saw race. The Ferrai scene was fine but the Jags and the Aston-Martin never showed us what they could do on the road before they were trashed. The Land Rover bit part was acceptable and would generally please SUVers except it never drove over top of a FIAT or an Alpha; something true MONSTER TRUCK MADNESS people would relish.
Women: Bit parts only. Love those mini-skirts! Hate that makeup :(
I wanted "chase scenes" but I got smoking FIATS (or were they Alphas?). While BMW would grin from ear to ear, GM would NOT be pleased with this movie.
