Exactly what AMF says. I've seen the discussion of 42 volt systems for at least 5 years now. You don't hear much about it because it doesn't have the sex appeal of, say, more cupholders or two-zone climate control.
Higher voltage has lots of advantages. Higher voltage means lower current, and lower current means thinner, (lighter, cheaper) wire. Electronics runs more efficiently at higher voltages - the 0.25 volt drop of a transistor switch is 2% of the line in a 12 volt system, but much less than 1% in a 42 volt system. Lower current and higher voltages mean that grounding problems are reduced. Motors can be made lighter and more powerful.
Not only have aircraft moved to 28 volts Decades ago, some military aircraft are going to much higher (up to 270 volt DC) systems - again, you end up with lighter, more efficient motors.
