Maine to Chicago.. route pref?

I am driving out to Chicago form Maine for a visit with a friend. I have three basic options.....
A. 90 thru the north of NY connecting to 80 in Ohio and then into Chi
or
B. go a bit more to the south and take 80 across all the way
or
C. go the northern route through Quebec/Toronto
Here are my thoughts. Both the US routes are fine, I would look for feedback on which is the better route from anyone that has done it recently.
I drove to the VFA this spring and this is a much shorter drive. I will use my V1 extensively during the trip and will likely try to make much of the drive in the those wee hours when traffic is light... which leads me to the reason I might take the northern route. I drove to Toronto in the winter along the northern route, and even on the back road traffic moved along, but on the highway it was go go go... so consider in your feedback that I tend be inclined to want to make time. The mileage ono the US routes are both around 1140 miles, but the Streets program I have doesn't cover any canadian roads...
