A Swedish company-Scandinavian Airport& Road Systems AB-has sold modified SAAB friction testing cars for four generations: 99, 900T, 9000T,and 9-5. In the hatch there is a 153 US gal. water tank for calibration runs and a small hydraulically actuated aircraft tire driven off one of the car wheels. The aircaft tire is lowered thru a hole in the hatch floor. Load sensors on the aircraft wheel measure the drag of the driven wheel, which is proportional the the friction of the tire to the road/runway surface.
The 9-5 estate version costs $120k USD, and is used at Newark, JFK, and LaGuardia Airports.

The SFT car has also been used to test the effectiveness snow melting chemicals on public roads at a university research center.
