""And Dutch Foreign minister Jozias van Aartsen said it was far too early to contemplate whether the attacks in New York and Washington could be considered attack on all NATO nations." - Oh really, what about Article V of the NATO charter. This declares an attack on any member of the alliance is to be considered an attack on all of them."
--No, article V declares that an attack on any member of the alliance *from a third nation* is to be considered an attack on all of them. Which is why NATO cannot intervene in conflicts between Greece and Turkey (both members) and why the US has to prove that this is not just another Timothy McVeigh (i.e., internal conflict).
"Right, they'll devalue the dollar while raising the Euro! Thanks for your support."
--As President Bush said just weeks ago in response to questions regarding the low euro: "the markets decide the exchange rates". Besides, nobody can devalue the US dollar but the Federal Reserve. The European Central Bank, however, has stated that it will support the dollar if necessary.
As for the rest of your post, let me quote the President of the European Commission, Romano Prodi:
"In the darkest hours of European history, the Americans stood by us. We stand by them now."
