I would avoid Culligan. I can't say that from personal experience but from what I have heard from others they have guided me away from Culligan.
I have had two Ecowater Systems installed in seperate homes and they have proved to me to be very reliable. I have one installed on a well water souce and the other on municipal and both work great. I very much like the Ecowater system for municipal water systems because it also removes chlorine from the water - which I guess also helps me from fading ;-)
They are both demand systems and they seem to use very little salt. My hardness is 12 on the one system and 18 on the other (that doesn't sound very good)
The style and look of the unit is rathe nice too - - some of the systems look like they below in some sort of chemical plant or processing plant.
The controls are simple to use too.
Hope that is helpful.
