In my position here at Saab I see many testimonial letters from OnStar customers. None have been as moving as this.
Dear Mr. Huber:
Yesterday, a day none of us will ever forget, I used OnStar for the first time.
My husband works in Center City directly across from the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall. After the horrific attack on the Trade Towers in New York, his office was evacuated and he attempted to come home on the train he takes each day. At the first station, the train was shutdown and he began to walk home. He tried to call me on his cell phone, but all lines were busy. By the time he reached me, he had walked about 14 blocks. By the way, we live about 24 miles from his office. He asked me to come get him and told me the approximate location and direction he was walking.
We have not lived in Pennsylvania long (actually we lived in Detroit for 11 years), so I was very unfamiliar with the area. As I headed downtown, I realized I was getting lost. So, I used OnStar for the very first time. We had purchased our car in May and had not even tried it! A man named Carl, who later told me he was in Central North Carolina, came on and was so very helpful. Not only did he pinpoint my location, but he managed to calm me down considerably. Like the rest of America, I was pretty upset with the events unfolding at that time, about 11 a.m.; we had no idea what was going on. Carl stayed on with me the entire time it took me to find my husband and guided me block by block. My husband was walking through some rather dangerous areas, and eventually I was able to contact him on his cell phone. By the time I found out where he was, he had walked 46+ blocks, and Carl told him which direction he should go to meet me as quickly as possible. I have to tell you, if Carl had not been on OnStar with me, I really would have panicked.
This morning, I tried to get on the Internet to try and somehow thank Carl and to let someone know how grateful both my husband and I were, but couldn't because my account number was wrong. I then called the toll free number and found out the dealer had put the wrong account number on our agreement sheet. A lady named Lanee or Laynee was very courteous and took time to find our account and gave me the correct number. When I told her my story about Carl, she suggested I write you and let you know.
Like so many others must tell you, I have never written a company before, but just felt I had to let you know how helpful Carl and OnStar were. If all your advisors are as nice and helpful as Carl, then OnStar will go far. While I was stuck in traffic, Carl also told me about the phone service that is now available in our area, and I have signed up for the free 30 minutes, with the opportunity to sign up for 12 months after that. I am sure I will.
Thanks to Carl and OnStar again. Whoever would have thought it would take a national tragedy for me to realize how important it is to have OnStar available. If possible, please let Carl know how grateful we are also.
