Not a bad way to spend a beautiful Autumn weekend, 10 Saabs and 20 Saabers. I had the pleasure of meeting Stephen Goldberger and his wife, editors and publishers of NINES(I may get that subscription yet). I met Phil(nice jacket), president of the Saab Club of North America, along with his wife and daughter Rianna(sorry I forgot the wifes name). Then there's Dan, president of the Central Ohio Saab club, who was there(45 minutes late for his own event). We didn't rub it in too bad. JJ and his dad Jay Davis from Dave Towell Saab in Akron were there(thanks for the helpful info Jay). Bill, and his beyond nice, 93 C900 from Canton was there. Everyone drooled over that car with good reason. Norm and his 150 mph 9-5 Aero made it(My kid adores you). Another Steve and his wife drove in from Vermont to be there. What dedication to Saab(actually he was in the area for 3 months). I apologize for not remembering any more names, but I'll remember your faces the next time I see you.
The itinerary was to meet in downtown Millersburg then tour the Amish countryside. We headed east through Berlin, then north to check out a hammer mill and forge that hand makes metal embossed collectibles.
The next stop was back to Berlin, where we all split up to visit the various craft stores of our own choice. After an hour or so we met in the huge parking lot of Der Dutchman, a family style restaraunt with outstanding food. They accomodated our group as best as they could(6 at one table and 14 at the other). This joint can serve 4500 meals a day during the busy season.
After lunch we gathered in the parking lot and lined all the cars up for photos. After some BSing some of us decided to visit an old-time hardware store that was not far away(the brochure looked interesting). Well, it turned out that the store in the brochure was their smaller store of the two and didn't have all the neat stuff as the big one.
My daughter and I parted ways at this point, but I thoroughly enjoyed myself and everyone's company. After being away from the Saab cast and 'characters' for so long, it's good to be back.
