OK, this is getting ridiculous. I have owned my Saab since July of 2000, and I have had the oddest problem. Something ALWAYS happens to my wheels - and it only seems to happen to the wheels and related parts. I've skipped off of a curb, I've had three flat tires from nails/screws. And in the last month, I have had two winter-related misfortunes befall me. First, on my un-plowed, un-sanded, big hill of a street, I slid into a curb stone. Not only did I blow my tire, I caused $680 worth of damage to a steering knuckle, tie rod, and whatever else is in the steering mechanism. Last night, on my way to a movie with two friends, I hit a pothole. This was the mother of all potholes. It was filled with ice and water, and the road was covered too, so it was invisible....UNTIL I HIT IT. With grand fury, the car shook and I knew things were not going to work out well. I pulled into the parking lot of the theater (200 feet away) and we got out to survey the damage. Well, you could hear the air RUSHING out of the tire. The sidewall was all bulged out, too. So, I took out the jack and went to work removing the tire. Well, has anyone else noticed that the included Saab tire-iron on the C900s sucks! You get NO leverage to get the bolts that are air-gunned on undone. So, AAA to the rescue. Here's the kicker...after I got the donut on the car to drive home (less than 2 miles) I start driving. I hit a pothole that was 6 feet wide, 2 feet across (the way I hit it) and 5 inches deep! I bent the donut. The AAA guy was right behind me still, so he pulled over to make sure all as OK. He told me that I could drive home on it very slowly. With a ka-thunk, ka-thunk all the way home, I made it. Well, the tire was replaced for free this morning because I have lifetime road hazard replacement. This is at least the 4th time I've invoked that privilege! Now I'm going to see my mechanic to have him check for alignment/steering damage. Now, let me ask you all this question...if it's expensive, do I have a shot in Hell to get the city to pay for it due to road negligence? My roommate works at that movie theater and drives that road every day. He said that hole has been there for at least a year! What do people think of my misfortunes? It doesn't mean I'm a bad driver, does it? I consider myself in the top 10% of drivers...this has been very damaging to my ego :-( Sorry this is so long...I just really needed to vent. Thanks for all who made it through my painful story!
