...Saab likely wouldn't exist, or would be owned by Ford and merged with Volvo or something. Saab hasn't been an outrageously successful car company since the 80's and is certainly not "losing a lot of sales to other European luxury brands," they can't lose something they don't have. The 9-5 is the only Saab that's been widely successful since the OG900 went out of style in the United States. While I think that the NG900 and 9000 are great cars, they're not the kind of car I'd recommend to anyone who just wants a nice car to get around in. You have to be able to appreciate Saabs in a way that goes beyond price/performance, magazine reviews, and reliability statistics. The 9-5 is a car (more or less) for the masses and lost much of that classic Saabness in the process. So the question is: do you want to see a more successful Saab or a Saab truer to its (quirky) roots? I think it's clear that you can't have it both ways.
