Have you heard of the Maine School of Science and Mathematics (MSSM)? I'm a senior here right now and if you want to do engineering, this is great place to do it--very interested students and teachers. A great learning environment, you get a taste of college (you live in a dorm and the expectations are high, academically), and it's practically free--all you pay is room and board, at under $3000. The state pays the tuition.
Okay, okay, this sounds too much like a plug for the school... but seriously, you should look at it! Yes, we're up in Aroostook County, yes we're a bit isolated, but to get a great education, it's worth it for two years. Most people come beginning their junior year (although a few sophomores come as well) and the curriculum is very strong in math and science.
Check out http://www.mssm.org for more information about the school and on how to apply. If you're interested and have some questions, e-mail me.
Unfortunately, there isn't a large Saab contingent, but I make do :)
