Garrett had a presentation at the 2001 SOC. It's a neat idea, but the thing draws something like 240 amps. That's two hundred forty!! When electrical systems go up to 48 VDC the current load will be a bit more manageable.
It's a darn pity that exhaust temps on gasoline engines are so high - it would be nice to be able to use the variable-vane technology on a SAAB turbo.
