My other passion besides Saabs are Porsches. I don't like the idea of a Porsche SUV at all. That said, if they are going to remain a vital independant car company, this move was needed. Their CEO, Dr. Wiedeking is a smart guy, and saved the company from being aquired by a larger manufacturer. Just like when Saab became part of GM, we all cringe at first, but after a while it is just a part of life in the modern world.
Also, the Porsche engineers took a long time developing this vehicle to be a SUV worthy of the Porsche name. It will be capable off-road. After all, Dr. Ferdinand Porsche invented the first 4WD vehicle, although it was electric. Granted, most of the buyers will be people who will never really drive it to the limits off road. But the 0-60 is under 5 tics with the twin turbo, not bad for an SUV.
