I agree. Any system that does not have a mechanical fail-safe mode, or at least a completely seperate redundant back-up electrical system, is an accident waiting to happen. Airplane manufacturers learned this many decades ago. The Shuttle has many layers of back-ups for critical systems. I believe the Russians don't use any at all in their planes or their spacecraft.
I think if a computer was controlling the brakes I would never quit worrying about it. It would be like sky diving with only one chute. If that one failed, you would not have long to contemplate the folly of that decision.
