You'll be removing the faucet/spout first, should be able to start unscrewing from there. You shouldn't have to cut any pipe.
All of the galvanized pipe that I've removed (many years and professions ago), had terrible deposits inside. However, I don't know how old the pipe was.
Teflon tape and pipe dope are used to lubricate the threads, but don't prevent metal-to-metal contact, nor should the tape be put on that thick, two wraps is sufficient. At least that's the norm, maybe this requires abnormal. I suspect that a galvanic reaction will occur, don't know how severe, nor how it's dealt with. Check with decent plumbing/hardware store.
This is above simply replacing a sink faucet. You might seek professional.
