I believe the Apple analogy is still apt. I was referring to the target niche's that Apple is in. Apple's marketshare is significant in it's niches (education, home, and creative professionals)...but overall is low.
Saab needs to take the same approach...try for significant share in it's niche.
Saab's current overall share of the US Light Vehicle Market is 0.24% (BMW is 1.66%)
RE: Quirky doenst sell
Yes it would never sell like Chevy...but if Saab trippled its sales it would still only sell half as many cars as BMW. I dont believe that Saab should stay small..but I dont think it will sell like BWW if it positions itself to be just like BWW. I still believe that if Saab wants to expand its share it would do best to evolve it's position focussing on it's uniqueness and quirkiness and individuality.
My main point is this.
- Saab needs to sell more to survive
- Saab needs to revitalize it's brand (along with product line) to sell more
- Saab should embrace its current position and capitalize on it (as was done by Volvo and Jaguar in recent years), and not attempt to be 'half BWW half Volvo"
