You can hardly go wrong with the foregoing information from posters. The other source of information I'd try is the CarTalk boys, Click n' Clack website which purports to show you the service record of most makes in association with the costs of running/repairing each vehicle by year and the overall profile of that vehicle over many years.
I used this site to settle on the '99 Saab 9-3 when I saw Saab reliability building over the years from 1996 on. When I checked that site, Saab from one year (I think it was the '98) was among the least expensive for repairs and Saab reliability had been growing each year. I cross-checked with a survey the UK's big leasing firm Lex Auto Leasing had going at the same time. Again, the Saab ranked high in reliability.
If you don't want a small truck, some of the small-mid sized GM cars were exceptional, particuarly at the end of product runs and parts are dirt cheap. Here, I'm thinking Chev Beretta and Chev Nova (actually a Toyota).
