Hi all,
About a montht ago I purchased the Griots Garage DYI rim paint kit. The kit included a paint prep cleaner, a can of Zinc pain, 4 cans of silver spray, and 4 cans of clearcoat spray.
The rims had no tires mounted, so I was able to easily prep the rims, wash and sand out all the rough egdes, and finished with wet sand paper for a silky smooth fininsh.
I applied all the paints, one light coat at a time, letting it dry inbetween coats at 70degrees. It's really dry here in Utah, so humidity was not a factor.
They looked great, I was really pleased with the results. A week later I mounted some sumer tires on them....then my distributor disintegrated and the car was in the garage for 2 weeks till fixed.
To my horror, they all now show signs of cracking. Very fustrating considering the time and effort put into them.
Before I contact Griots about this, I'd like to have an understanding of how this could have happen. I clearly followed the directions on the cans.
Can anyone shed some light on this?
Bitterly disappointed,
Boris
