I can't really see how your new system is laid out - is that the hose I see hanging down on the left of the photo?
I have a compressor that spits in spite of a seperator, and I haven't bothered to fix it yet. I figured it was the high humidy of the anbient air. It is set up like your old system.
I like the idea of a pipe water trap. You might get the same result by having a big loop of hose that hangs down below the level of the compressor - the water would tend to collect there rather than climb uphill into your system. Eventually enough will collect to start coming out the far end.... That would also give some more cooling room for the heated air, at the loss of a bit of pressure at the far end. You might give this a try before adding more piping.
I think I will rearrange my own plumbing and see what happens. Good luck.
