Thanks to Charles River Saab, I got a sneak peek at the new 9-3 yesterday evening. Very nice looking. We saw a euro spec edition, which didn't have some little things like that cupholder they're advertising, childseat attachments and the dash was in km/hr, but otherwise it looks really nice. As you may or may not know, most everything is chain or cam driven, I think only the alternator and water pump are driven by belts. (Actually the PS pump runs off one of the camshafts...weird.) The setup under the hood is a little strange, but maybe that's just because I'm used to my old 900. The all aluminum engine is mounted to the right of the centerline, and the turbocharger is against the firewall at the back of the bay. The charge pipe runs under the engine to the intercooler in front and back up to the intake manifold, which I found a little weird.

As I understand it, there will be three models marketed in the US: the linear, base model, generates 175hp/195 ft-lbs of torque. The Arc will have a 6 speed gearbox and do 210hp/215 ft-lbs if I remember the data correctly, and the Vector will have the same power as the Arc but no manual transmission option. There's a couple other things like interior trim/leather that changes from model to model. I think the 9-3 will retail between $26-$30k, depending on model/options package.
