No one who considers themself a "dummy" is going to be able to learn Unix with any proficiency anyway.
There are plenty of other books on the topic of learning *nix, all written from different perspectives and with different goals (becoming a sys admin, a power user, programmer, etc.). Go to a bookstore with a good computer section (I like Barnes & Noble) and invest an hour or two skimming books.
Every person is different. You can try scanning Amazon.com for the topic and look for some of the top reviews. But take reviews with a grain of salt. While usually on target, sometimes my favorite tech books have gotten rotten reviews on Amazon.com, and vice versa. Unfortunately, learning preferences are subjective.
