Repair lies happen all the time. Let's face it... I'd wager that less than 1% of all people who bring their cars in for service actually have any clue how a car works. So the service folks take advantage of this to cut costs.
I have a Ford F-150 that I've been bringing to the local Ford dealer for bi-annual brake fluid replacement and coolant replacement. Been doing this for 10 years now. The other day, one of the brake lines rusted through, and I replaced it. Went to bleed the brakes. The brake caliper nipples were completely rusted in. They had NEVER been bled. The stuff that came out was as black as tar.
I wrote a note to the service manager who replied with some mumbo-jumbo. He couldn't care less. The only thing to do is never go there again and find a better mechanic out there (there are a lot!). What else can one do without encountering a lot of frustration?
Soapbox starts:
There is a real undercurrent of irresponsibility running through this country (USA). CEOs rob companies of their assets, then figure they are so rich, they are above the law. Corners are cut constantly to shave a few dollars into one's pockets (go to any construction site for real examples). The attitude is: hey, if no one notices, then I am ahead of the game. If they do, I'll just say "so what... sue me!".
Hey... that's my cynical attitude for today... my apologies!
