Check out the specs for your particular model (anyone hear a broken record?). But as a side note, I have my 5 channel running a 6 ohm DVC wired parallel (so it's really 3 ohm) and it was stated to be stable to 4 ohms. I've yet to have a problem (about a year later). The amp I used to have running the sub was a 2 channel also rated at 4 ohm in mono (same sub) I ran it that way for 2 years. I don't turn it up super super loud often, but it's usually fairly loud.
I have been told (by stereo tech guys) that as long as you have thermal cut out protection and good ventilation you should be ok. (of course within reason).
