I gotta disagree with you on this one.
My wife bought a brand-new 2002 Accord last year. Per specs, a 225 hp. engine in a ~3300 lb. car (that's 14.6 lb/hp). My almost unmodified '86 9000 turbo with 250,000 miles, rated ~3100 lb. and 165 hp. (18.8 lb/hp), performed *sgnificantly* better than the Honda. It could win any race except maybe 0-20. And it got better gas mileage - with A/C on all the time (Florida), she was averaging 18-20 mpg, I'd average 24-25.
I'm willing to accept the argument that something was wrong with the Honda, although there was never any indication - it started & ran perfectly, check-engine light never came on, etc. Both cars were well-maintained and used synthetic oil.
And, anyone want to try replacing a timing belt in that Honda? Not me!
