1. Shipped the buggers back w a respectfully clear explanation of my disappointment. Exchanged them for the 3-ton version by Griot, which have a nice design but haven't seen in person yet. These will also fit into the jacking brackets on the car, whereas the 5-ton pad is too wide and must be located more rearward - ok but not ideal given wt of Saab nose.
Have been searching the net for an alternative, but thus far they are universally of the same crappy locking mechanism that, while statistically safe I gather, still gives me the creeps.
2. Griot's is geared toward people who are willing to pay a little more for something designed to a better standard. Now, whether it's worth the extra money is a personal choice for each given item. I really enjoy the quality of my Griot's stuff, but there is other stuff for sale there that is so outlandish I can't imagine who buys it. To each his own.
