This is in regards to the article by motor trend that I just read..
http://www.motortrend.com/sept02/saab/saab_f.html
The byline reads "Still quirky - and newly affordable"
After test driving the new 9-3 I'm about to blow my lid. First off, given, I'm 21 years old. By that rationale, many would think that I am ignorant and don't know what else the car market has to offer.
Second, I have been a valet at a four seasons hotel for 2 summers in a row, although I would say which :) and I've driven plenty of very very nice cars. Since my daily driver is a 87 SPG, and I still rally my 75 99LE from time to time when I can afford to keep it running, I am obviously biased to saabs. Given, the new 9-3 isn't a f-ing Porsche or something but I think it is still a great car. Today I checked out Edmunds.com and looked at what they had to say about the new 9-3. Wasn't a whole lot but what I did notice what cars they compared the base 9-3 to.
Audi A4, BMW 3, Infiniti G35, Lexus ES 300, and the Volvo S60. I've driven all except the G35. So if it is truly superior to the 9-3 except my apologies. However, all the cars in my opinion were quite lackluster compared to the 9-3. Simply put, the 9-3 was just really really fun to drive. All the other cars seemed to miss that. The BMW and the Lexus seemed to have a lot more power, but when it came down to general handling characteristics, I felt a lot much more comfortable and confident in the saab.
Anyways, the whole point of this huge rant is that I don't get what the car industry media's bias is toward saab is. They have obviously put out a great car and yet they all seem to be saying is that, "yeah, it's a good car, for a SAAB..."
Rant, over... thanks... also whenever you go to an establishment that has valet's like myself, be carefull and check the odometer. You do not want to know what some of my co-workers have done with a clients car....
