this year? I know that we had the Hirsch Aero at the show, but did we not include anything else? You're right about the displaying our vehicles prior to release, but this is the way it's always been. We've never had products showcased prior to production (aside from a preview just weeks before release). Why? I don't know. We seem to be one of the only manufacturers that have not figured this out. If it's at the show, it doesn't actually have to have the under workings. Dress the exterior up, and slap a sign beside showing estimated performance numbers and specs. No one at the auto show will actually look under the vehicle or pop the hood to inspect the hardware.
We'll spend $1,000,000 on an Autoweek ad campaign to put ourselves in the magazine as an advertisement, but we won't spend the money to put ourselves in the magazine as an article. Auto magazines are the best advertising for the money. Make a killer presentation, wine and dine an editor or two, and get yourself published! What's so hard about that? Making a good impression at one of the big auto shows, will get you published in a heartbeat. When the magazines like you, everyone does. One day, hopefully, someone will realize that, and start treating the media as importantly as everyone else. The Edmunds article tells the tale best. We didn't even have a finished product for them to drive. They had to drive a car that was patched together with incorrect options and equipment. It, even, had the wrong suspension, for crying out loud! Currently, we don't deserve good press. We aren't working hard (or perhaps, smart) enough to justify their attention.
Cheers,
Brian.
