On my very first air plane ride over to America I shared seatrow with an American guy that had spent a year in Sweden studying the language. And he told me that in some parts of America with heavy population of old people of Swedish heritage, where the influence of modern Swedish haven't been the norm. They actually spoke a Swedish that was spoken in Sweden in the 1800.
Because they had learned the language from their parents who had learned from their, and so on.
It just made me gasp and think about how cool it would be to listen to them and hear what it might have sounded like back then.
I know that Iceland speak a language similar to what the Vikings spoke in Sweden in around year 1000.
And after what I understand is that the Icelandic people can still read books that was printed in the 1300.
