Here is a GM Truck board (one of many, I'm sure)...they might be able to help.
Was the truck running hot?
I don't have a Blazer, but IMHO, if you lose a waterpump and/or enough antifreeze to empty the heater core, I'd say your truck would overheat....
Otherwise, sounds like no coolant is getting to the core. Check the hoses, and find where the leak is coming from. If the core was bad, your internals may also be full of corrosion...
