...it's illegal - clear violation of copyright law. the education argument is untenable and/or disingenuous - i'm skeptical that anyone would buy it. however, if no one finds out, you'd have to answer only to your conscience. and the likelihood of someone finding out is pretty darn low (although, you did just post to a public forum that now has your full name and IP address, and which might be monitored by gm).

if gm does find out, you (or your isp) might receive a 'nastygram' (i.e., cease & desist, pal) from their lawyers. if you fail to remove the content, things get worse from there. given that they're selling these things for $375 (Taliaferro Saab's price), gm may be upset if they find out you're sharin' it w/the world.

the guy selling copies of the latest EPC on eBay might be a candidate for a letter from gm's lawyers. someone who's posted 10-year old docs on how to rebuild a gearbox has little to fear.

re: a club purchase, you'd have to read the software license, which will specify the number of users or computers.
